Gig work has gone through a lot of changes in the past few years thanks to AI. Not only are many freelancers losing gigs as a result of the technology, the work itself is changing, too. Many popular gig apps, such as Uber or DoorDash, have started using workers to train AI systems.
Now, the work-on-demand app Instawork is taking things a step further. They’ve created a wearable device for their gig workers, which they plan on using to train robots.
For those who are struggling to make enough money from gig work, recording themselves working may give them an income boost they desperately need.
However, it also raises a more pessimistic question: are these struggling gig workers essentially training their future replacements?
