Earlier this year, the social media giant Meta started tracking its workers’ mouse movements and keystrokes. Rightly or wrongly, many companies do that to evaluate how productive their employees are, but in this case, there’s more to it than that. Meta claims they’re monitoring their workers’ screens to scrape data for AI training.
With the company having announced a fresh wave of layoffs in May, most employees aren’t pleased with this new initiative. It also reflects a broader trend among companies. Thanks to AI, you may not realize when your boss is keeping tabs on you—and if it turns out that they are, there’s a chance you’re inadvertently training your replacement.
