On July 1st, the Trump administration will implement a huge overhaul to federal student loans. As part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the government will abolish some of the repayment plans available to lower-income individuals, such as the SAVE plan. They’re also putting caps on how much prospective and current students can borrow, especially those pursuing graduate degrees.
The government claims they’re streamlining the student loan repayment process. However, critics say that these new changes disproportionately affect lower-income students and workers from critical sectors.
