“All you had to do was pay us enough to live.”
That was the message warehouse worker Chamel Abdulkarim delivered on April 7, 2026, after he allegedly ignited a blaze that destroyed a Kimberly-Clark warehouse in Ontario, California, causing damages worth $500 million.
Abdulkarim posted a cell phone video to Instagram in which he appeared to use a lighter and matches to start multiple fires. In the video, he referenced Luigi Mangione, who, in 2024, was charged with assassinating UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in protest against the practices of health insurance companies (which Mangione described as “parasites”).
At the time of writing, Abdulkarim remains in custody.
